tomadde - when a band disappears from SAB the believers get their parts back into their balance. when they think a band is not worth it anymore they can also pull out parts themselves.

1. The Fire Starter
2. Believer
3. I am a fan! I love great music! I make music too. I'm currently trying to persuade a few artist buddies of mine to sign up. I work with many artists and I'm always looking for new ways to get things crackin'!
4. I discovered sellaband whilst researching a way to achieve a similar thing, fans investing artists. I then discovered that I knew one of the sellaband experts. I got more info from him.
5. I'm loving the idea of artists being in control of their own destiny. Any tools that help, artist link directly with fans, get my vote. Since becoming a listener, and later a believer, I'm loving sellaband as a way to discover new music. There really is some cool stuff up here! I'll soon be using it as a means to network with artists also. I don't like the fact that we have no idea how much we can realistically expect to earn from advertising at the back end, i.e. how much is sellaband going to charge for ad space? But, I guess that isn't the main reason for believing so it's OK really.
How do I decide which artist to support?
The music has to touch me. I ask myself, do I need this music in my life? In the soundtrack to my life?
If this were not a sellaband page would I be interested?
How serious is the artist at hitting the 50,000 mark? Do I want the CD more than they do? (Not good.)
I seem to have a knack for spotting star artists in the making so I like the idea of showing support where I see potential also, and giving advice where necessary. That's where the wish list is handy! Also, I ask myself, is the interaction going to be fun? This is essentially a social network after all.
Who are your current top 3 recommendations of artists to support and why?
Ha ha. I only believe in 3 at the moment.
Dewi - just killed it when here tune came on. Got me hook line and sinker with her voice!! I was done for!!! (Symphony in air) d**n! I could listen to that tune for a week straight and still reach for the rewind button!
Melena - Just press play! Great, seriously good music!
Sacha - Pure class!! Too smooth for me to resist!!
Any other artists you're currently interested in?
Toooo many to talk of all of them right now!!! Plus I know that I haven't even scraped the surface ! Keep an eye on my page!!!
There's an artist called Amina-J that shows promise. Good R&B Pop (Listen to Do that thing_1)
Phil Tweed is great and Brian Abais ' caught my ear with his oh so classic vocal approach! (Watch the video!!)
Scarlet Beauty would do very well on here with a little better backing tracks! (Under the influence) Their voices are actually pretty cool.
What advice would you give to artists who have just signed up to Sellaband?
Listen to lots of stuff before you jump in. The juke box is a great research tool. Become a believer first. The process will give a great idea of what you'd expect as a listener of your music. Enjoy the networking process and be friendly. Don't just lay there! (It's never fun when that happens!!) Talk to peeps!
Put your best tune in the top slot! Some people don't get past the first unless it's great!
Use the entire internet as your tool. YouTube last-FM MySpace etc. . . . .
It's a great time to make something happen!

1. What name do we know you by on Sellaband? Metricks / metricks 2. What are you on Sellaband? (artist/believer/both) both 3. Tell us something about yourself. I´m from Portugal and i love music..is that enough? 4. How did you find out about Sellaband and what convinced you to sign up? well i knew about sellaband almost from the start, i´m a constant observer about news, ideias and concepts that shall interest to independent artists 5. What do you like/dislike about the concept? I like almost everything, even that, i would like to refer one or two points. I think in Sellaband, the new kind of poverty, the technological poverty, it will dificult those from less favoured countries have the same access and promotion. Not to talk that for sure it will be difficult for them to find believers in their own countries, for other reasons, or similar reasons. The other point i would like to focus, is the tottaly concentration in the most "Value" artists, in what touches to promotion, and exposure, and tottaly forgotten (or almost) a lot of talent, that is arround the countless pages of artists. Should´t be good, that Sellaband had their own Scouts, or create a partnership by aplication of believers that love to discover new music??? couldn´t be the site to give a good kick of to some artists, by the reference of great and unseen artists? Ow, i think i have more than one or two points, so far...and i would also to referr another issue that made me, and make me think about a lot of time... Most of the belivers, usually say that they won´t support a band in their adventure of gathering money if they aren´t active. Isn´t that a not so much "artistic" point of view, about an issue called loving music? When i like a band, it is not for their potential of selling, is cause i like their music! artists: What tactics do you use to try and attract believers? No tatics, this question sounds like i shall trick or press someone to buy a part. I try to be myself... Are there any other artists on Sellaband you're interested in or would like to work with? probably... What would you like to achieve through your experience with Sellaband? new friends... Why should believers believe in you? if they like my music, why shouldn´t they? believers: How do you decide what artists to support? if i like their music Who are your current top 3 recommendations of artists to support and why? can´t answer that one, i ddon´t have only three recomendations Any other artists you're currently interested in? a lot... What advice would you give to artists who have just signed up to Sellaband? Welcome to the internet...and good luck! Big Hello to you all! Metricks (J.André) P.S. - If you find in the text missing letters, wrong ordered words, like "acn" as it should be "can", is because my keyboard is not functioning well, i´m starting to have dislexy, and above alll, my english is not so good!

Most of the belivers, usually say that they won´t support a band in their adventure of gathering money if they aren´t active. Isn´t that a not so much "artistic" point of view, about an issue called loving music? When i like a band, it is not for their potential of selling, is cause i like their music! Hi metricks and welcome to the site and this forum! Let me just clarify my view on your statement for a second since I don't want you to have the wrong view of us believers. When we say that we don't "support" a band that isn't active, it isn't because of their music. There are artists whose music I love, and who I would really enjoy to have them make a cd through sellaband. But if they are not "active" that means they won't get noticed, they won't post new songs, and usually they don't respond to their fans and so on. A band like that will never get enough fans or believers to make a cd. So if I have $10 to spend, and 2 bands that I like, I will support the band that is better to their fans and more likely to reach 50k and make a cd. There are so many good bands on the site, that I can't support them all...so I choose to support the ones that are most dedicated to their fans and to the sellaband process. I will still listen, communicate, and give moral support to any artist I like though. I hope that helps clarify the issue for you. We believers are not usually cruel to artists, we have to do the most we can with limited resources

Hello Empire of One ...it was not my intention to deliver some kind of guilt to the believers, just expressing my not tottaly understanding of that posture i referr before. However, i acomplish to understand that when you have some bucks to spend you have to make your own choices! And as in any area people is people, and tit is really gtreat that people can express what goes in their believ and opinion, the beauty of freedom of expression and choice! And please, i don´t have no ideia that believers are cruel Wish you a great weekend! Full of music, of course! Metricks

1. What name do we know you by on Sellaband? Marijke
2. What are you on Sellaband? (artist/believer/both) I'm an artist
3. Tell us something about yourself. I'm Marijke, 20 year old girl from Holland. I love to play guitar and sing. I'm playing guitar for almost 3 years now and I'm writing songs for 1,5 year. I record my own stuff, in my bedroom with an extern soundcard, a guitar and a microphone. I love my cat and I study to become a primary school teacher, but my biggest dream is to travel around the world and make music.
I'm often happy and I like lasagna.
4. How did you find out about Sellaband and what convinced you to sign up? I found it because I was searching with google for websites to promote my music. I saw a link to sellaband and was interested. I read the agreement and decided to join, because it is something new.
5. What do you like/dislike about the concept? I like the fact that you can message eachother, and people can invest in the artist.. And I like the fact that I can expose myself to international people. But I guess I'm too new here to say what I dislike...
artists: What tactics do you use to try and attract believers? Actually I don't know... I'm very new here and I mostly post messages to express my interest in someone/music or a subject on a forum.. I think I have to get used to promote myself more often.. I did post a message on the official forum to introduce myself, but no-one replied o_0
Are there any other artists on Sellaband you're interested in or would like to work with? I think Bim's music is great. I think there are many nice people on sellaband, but I don't know them well, so I can's pick my favorites this early... I guess that will take some more time!
What would you like to achieve through your experience with Sellaband? That people from all around the world will have a listen to my music, and I would love to perform in foreign country's someday..
Why should believers believe in you? Because I'm reliable.

1. In April Sometimes 2. Artist 3. 30 years old, from Italy, working as a product manager for one major industry in the consumer electronics field. I'm a guitarist and singer, i've been in lot of bands, i had an indie label in the past, produced some records and compilations with good result. At the moment, it was necessary to start doing my how thing, and that's how In April Sometimes is born.
4. i've found sellaband reading an article of one major italian newspaper in its online edition
5. The concept's great, love the fact that people can support, interact, cooperate to reach something in which they believe. It seems also a great opportunity for the bands to reach the audience and some sort of talent confirmation, if so many people believe in one artist.
6. At the moment i'm working hard on new stuff, and having good music on the page is the first and best way to convince believers that the project's going. I'm also working on the making of t-shirts and gadgets to be used for believers and also for my live gigs Plus, there will soon be a special ep with unreleased tracks + live tracks + vids.
7. I'm always open and willing to collaborate with other artist, whenever and everywhere, so i hope also someone gets in touch with me also for this kind of situations.
8. The main pupose of this experience is to reach the audience, receive feedbacks and build some sort of fan basis.
9. the point is not why should the believers should believe in me...it's music...and when you listen to something that you like, well, that's the starting of believing...if you're in some way touched by the sounds or the words that you're hearing..well, that's believing...if you tell yourself that you feel in some way "into" this thing and then you start participating in buying parts of the record...well...give a listen to my tracks and start thinking about it.

1. What name do we know you by on Sellaband? 2. What are you on Sellaband? (artist/believer/both) 3. Tell us something about yourself. 4. How did you find out about Sellaband and what convinced you to sign up? 5. What do you like/dislike about the concept?
artists: 6. What tactics do you use to try and attract believers? 7. Are there any other artists on Sellaband you're interested in or would like to work with? 8. What would you like to achieve through your experience with Sellaband? 9. Why should believers believe in you?
1. Chapter 9
2. Artist (and a small small believer in Julia Marcell)
3. Hi, I'm Marc, and I'm the singer songwriter of Chapter 9. I also play the acoustic and electric rythm guitars. I'm 24 (about to be 25 at the end of August) and it's been now one year that I have graduated of my Business School. I've decided to try and get my music played and listened to out there, and try to live with it, that's why I work part-time. I live in Paris with my fiancee, Caroline, who sometimes believes in me more than I do myself (she's my light). We live in Montmartre (if you guys know the place...), just above a recording studio, where we recorded our latest EP, "Piece of Cake", a collection of pop songs.
My favourite music is: The Beatles, Neil Young, Wilco, the Jayhawks, Love, John Lennon's solo stuff, Turin Brakes, and I'm sure I forget plenty...
4. I discovered Sellaband thanks to Matt (he's signed up to believe in us) who reads a lot about new business online. I was immediately thrilled by the concept, though I could not really use it properly at first, for two main reasons: - I had an exclusive distribution contract with Reshape Music ("fairtrade music distribution") and was really committed to succeed via Reshape Music (because I love the team and their dedication to music) so I did not want to disappoint them by promoting our band via another "competitor" (even if they're not competitors). Now that we have recorded a new album, I don't have this obligation anymore, and I still promote Reshape for our previous EP (5 Songs) but I'm definitely on SAB! - for the last 6 months I have been extremely busy out there, making music (lots of gigs), recording our EP (I wanted this to be as professionnal as it could be) and networking with other Parisian artists... (and for personal stuff also, getting married at the end of the Summer...!)
5. What I like about the concept is the fact that you reach REAL music lovers, from all around the world (which is a good thing, because in France, for French bands who sing in English it's always difficult. I also think it's a good thing to put more sense in the relationship between artists and music lovers. What I think would be even better on SAB would be to give the opportunity for any artist to present a project, whether it'd be recording an album, going on tour, making a video, raising money to buy a studio, anything really, and believers would invest money in the project if they like the music & the project.
But I think it would be really hard to handle for the SAB people... They've come up with a great concept that takes the artist further rather than solely giving out a check when you reach the 50K. That is a great idea. I do hope that they make distribution deals with physical distributors though, but I think they've thought of this before me!
6. I have no established tactics when it comes to connect with other people. I only try to know more about the person I'm trying to speak to before I even make the first move. I think it is essential. Not only because it's a sincere approach and appeals to the believer as being sincere, but also because it is a question of respect. People are putting money on the table, if you go and say like on myspace "hey, check out my music" to tons of people, nobody will pay attention... That is not really being nice and not really being clever (imho)...!
7. I love Julia Marcell. Her songs, her voice, her piano sound. I think she'll go far far far and am proud to have put a small small part in her! Besides that, I think T-Ka is fantastic, Ark Halls are geniuses... GD Allan is a gifted songwriter and Stephen Mac Leod has really nice songs!
8. I am here on SAB to get to 50K, obviously, and to prove myself and other people that there are people out there who like pop music, and are willing to put money in the success of this kind of music. I'm here to make a great record and to get a tour deal to promote it all around Europe, and, fortunately, around the world. I am here to make our songs live worldwide and reach a number of people I can't reach in Paris. Be a "confidential" act all around the world, giggin in small venues (not stadiums) and being able to live with it!
9. I think the music we make is not original. I think it's actually been done a thousand times. What is original is the melodies we make and the arrangements. And my voice is original too (I'm not saying it, many people say it). I think believers can see how much commitment I put into things when it comes down to music and being professionnal. We've invested quite some money and a lot of time to record our latest EP, because we wanted things to be done well, so we could be proud of what we did, and be able to speak about it proudly. I think in the end it's all about implication and quality music. I think I'm implicated in the success of Chapter 9 and I think our music is fresh enough to make it worth a part or two ;-D !
Thanks Lucretia for this forum. I think my first words on this forum had to be posted on this presentation thread!
Cheers
Marc
