NUMBERS... 14 acts on the absolute Top 20 charts are of English language origin! The remaining 6 are respectively: 2 from France, 2 from The Netherlands, 1 from Germany and 1 from Portugal! Despite that they all sing in English! World music, where are youuuuuu?

... 7 of them are from the antipodes (I guess we can use this word, right?)! 9 are from Europe and the remaining 4 from the US! 3 top positions belong to Aussie/Kiwi acts!

Yeahh, World music where are you!!!!!! But it seams than when you sing in a foreign language, nobody beleives in you, so sometimes I have to load english songs to attract beleivers. "Bambara" my father language (which is very nice when it is sang), brings me congatulations but no parts.!!??! In Peace Alioune K

At the end of the day, what language are we communicating with in this forum? It makes sense to sing in english. One has a broader potential audience. I think if Simeon would be rapping in english, he would have a heck more believers, since there are not as many german speaking people on Sellaband. On the other hand: some of his biggest believers like the music and his vibe despite the language barrier. So I may be wrong. I guess everybody should perform in the language they feel most comfortable with. I am more comfortable with english. Music is the true international language!

This could easily change if more people in Germany discover Sellaband. If there would be a bigger German festival with a Sellaband stage (like the Concert @ Sea - festival in Holland), we would pick up a lot of German believers. And don't forget Germany is one of the bigger countries of Europe, in Austria there are also a lot of German speaking people and also in a part of Switzerland too.

Most of the non-nateive speakers of English on this forum are obviously quited adept in the language. However, I notice that unless I really try, I don't catch the meaning of the english lyrics in songs. Maybe this is true for others as well. I can't tell you what "Gone fishing" or "City" or most of the other songs I listen to from SAB are about. The lyrics are as imporant to me in these songs as in "Pasion de mujer" - which I barely gather is about womanly passion.
Norwegian/Scandinavian lyrics are much more important to me. I get them in a totally different way.
In one way, I'm jealous of the native, or-as-good-as-native English speakers for being able to more quickly relate to the lyrics. On the other hand, considering the quality of most of the lyrics on TV/radio, I'm very happy to easily ignore them.
