Hi Folks,
I've been having a think about the technology we used the other night and I have a couple of thoughts I'd like to run up the flag pole, see who salutes. We should leverage our synergies (LOL) ...
No really ...
First off, You SAB people ... yes you at the back - pay attention, and stop that. Right. Excellent. My suggestions are in no way intended as a criticism, just ideas on what might have improved the experience for me ...
The video and sound was, to all intents and purposes, excellent! Sound quality was incredible - was that you Tony Platt - sit up straight boy! Hand up to answer please ... Well anyway, well done. A+ for that indeed. The video was excellent too, and if no one is going to own up for that then the whole class will have to stay after school!
The chat room: Here is where I think some improvements could be made. - and before I continue, don't think we're not greatful for the opportunity to chat - cos it was such a laugh!
I'd have the "chatroom" on a different page. We can open two windows without a problem - have the video full screen and the chatroom on top in one corner (better yet ... get a second monitor for your PC, 'cos that is indeed the way forward!).
Once the chatroom is in a different window I think the other issue would be more easily resolved - the size of the chatroom section was too small. Make it a whole page, and we can size the window as best fits our needs.
Also, it was quite annoying that when I was scrolling back to see comments I'd missed, a new comment would automatically throw me back to the top again - the other chatroom we used (for Maitreya's $50K for example) didn't seem to do this - and it had a much larger "buffer" allowing us to scroll back much further too.
I'd also like to see the ability to switch off the "New comment" noise - it's defo useful to have it if you just have the window open in the background somewhere, but nice to turn it off if we're watching streamed video.
The future:
How much of a pain would it be to have gigs in several places, and link them all - so Artist 1 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, followed by Artist 2 in London somewhere, No3 from Sydney, No4 from NYC ... etc.
Obviously, there are time issues - evening in Europe is morning in Sydney.
Locals can join in at their local venue, others can watch from home.
Project the images from the other venues, so when the music is coming from Paris, show the crowds from the other venues!
Actually, it all sounds pretty expensive?
All in all, though, a resounding success - only bettered by the live webcast from the Paradiso :-)
