I want to ask artists to join up with last.fm, should I do this in a message or with a comment so believers who read it join too? I'm not sure what SAB's policy is on external sites like these..

SellaBand is not competing with Last.fm, they complement each other, so I think they would encourage it. Believers can joins as users already, as for artists maybe we could guide them one by one. It is a bit difficult for me to guide an artist, because I haven't gone through the process myself as I'm not an artist or a label, and I can't seem to find tutorials with screenshots. So maybe one of the artists would like to help with that as well. Lily for example has an album on her last.fm profile and the buy button links to her SellaBand profile. I think others should do that as well. I have made a sort of menu on my 'About me'-tab on my profile, which others can copy if they want, or make something similar. That way we might be able to get more people to these places as well. This way it only takes one line at the top of your tab: SellaBand >> \ __Forum__/ \ __Blog__/ \ __YouTube Group__/ \ __Last.FM__/

There's a few more things everyone that joins should do (to get sellaband noticed on last.fm that is).
- Tag Sellaband artists with the Sellaband tag
- Tune into the Sellaband tag radio channel

Tagging done, now I'm building a nice SAB playlist for myself I'm creating a last.fmprofile for a friends band also on SAB, take screenshots and look at some of the problems one might run into. Roy, I completely agree, imho SAB should stay the final stage for artists after they gathered enough following on myspace, lastfm, youtube, real life, etc.

Thanks kegher, I think that could really help to have some screenshots, also so that we can see all the options. Here is SellaBand Tag Radio. Sometimes it says "There is not enough content", but if you click play a couple times more, it tends to start playing again (at least that happens in my case). But there is not that much content on there at the moment, so at some point there really is not enough content. I believe you can also tag songs, which might be a good idea as well, so that the songs end up on the right Radio station, which is especially important if the songs differ in genre a lot. Also for those artists who share their band name with some other bands with the same name. They share the page and the tags it seems, so in that case it is better to tag the songs. (That's something that Last.FM didn't get right).

Last.fm doesn't require for artists to make a full profile, they expect the users to do all the tagging and information editing so they only thing left is for artists to upload their music. Here is a guide, not as easy as Roy's but I hope it's sufficient. Last.FM artist guideLet me know if I've been talking crazy dutch somewhere or if you have suggestions.

Hey that's great kegher, and fast! I'm wondering if it is possible to change the track options later as well (Step 4). That way an unknown artist could start with the free download option for a couple of tracks. That could get the artist get more scrobbles and become more popular, at some point the artist could switch these tracks to the full-length preview option. That option is similar to what artists already do on SellaBand. When the artist becomes really popular they could switch all the tracks to the radio play option if they prefer that. I don't know if it is possible to make these changes later, so i'll see if I can find it, or maybe someone can tell me? If that were the case then I think it would be a good idea, to pick one or two songs that we will be playing a lot and make them full-length preview. And maybe make one of those free download for a while. If artists would like to upload more songs, maybe those could be made radio play (which means they play full-length on the radio stations, and shuffled playlists, but on-demand last.fm users only get to hear a 30 second snippet). (It might be interesting to look into uploading like two-thirds of the song, as if it were the entire song. That would mean that in no case people get to hear the entire song, not on the radio, playlists, or on-demand. You then could make more of them 'full-length preview' or free download. I don't know if that is allowed, or if it would work, so I would not recommend doing that at this moment).Artists can also upload a picture that they want to use for their profile, but other users can do that as well, which picture is used is based on voting, every user can vote. The artist description can be written or modified by users. But unlike SellaBand they want the description to be written in the third person, so no 'I' or 'we'. I will add the Last.fm Artist Guide to my profile.

Thanks for the guide kegher, I think that's a good idea to put Sellaband as the shop.

I've written a User Guide for Last.fm, so this is mainly meant for Believers who listen to music on their computer (and/or iPod). So if that's you, please look at the guide and join Last.fm to help promote the artists you Believe in simply by doing what you were already doing before: listening to the music you love. Join Last.fm (User Guide)If you can also give me some feedback, I can change the parts that are not clear, etc. So let me know, thanks!
