I'd like for SAB to sign up with last.fm, it's a win-win situation for all parties. LastFM gets a load of new artists and new users as SAB believers might join and hopefully lastfm users find SAB music they like and get interested.
Elrond it seems you are a long time member/subscriber, so please share with us what you know about Last.FM and how we should be doing this.
Like DWM mentioned there are some paid services to get extra 'airplay', but according to the forum it is a boost and so it should be possible to get some airplay without it, so I think we should try that first. Here are some recommendations from the Last.FM Staff: How to get more airplay..
Artists should upload some content: music (Full-length preview), picture, CD artwork with a link to their album on amazon, cdbaby, ..
And also add some similar artists. (It seems that with similar, they also mean how many plays you get, so don't say you are similar to all very popular artists. Maybe you can add one popular artist and the rest actual similar artists?)
Believers and artists can create a Last.fm user account and download the last.fm application which is needed to keep track of the tracks you play on your computer or IPod (you can specify which tracks you'd like to be included).
Everyone with a user account should tag the artist, mostly the music genre, but you can also tag them as sellaband. A number of users need to do this, before the tags show up and the artists music will be included in the radio stations, like: Acoustic Radio, or SellaBand Radio
We also need a couple of users to vote for a picture before it will show up.
And we all should play the songs that have been uploaded, in our players and iPods. You can see on your account if the songs are being counted (Recently Listened Tracks on your Overview). Some statistics are updated weekly I believe, so they won't show up right away.
It seems Nemesea had over 400 listeners last week. So maybe we can ask them how they managed that.
Maybe we can just start asking artists to upload the songs that we will be listening to a lot, and post it here when they do so, so that we can vote and tag and listen.
One more thing I would like to mention is that I think Last.fm got a couple of things very right, like the similar artists which keeps you going from one artist to several others, I like that a lot, too much actually . And also the very small play (preview) buttons which you can even use in the forum, those are very nice. I think those would be great for the Tribune for example, so that you can listen to Adam's suggested songs immediately. Or use them in the 'spam' comments/messages, 30 second previews, and if you like what you hear, you can go to their profile to listen to the entire song (and the other songs). All you'd need to do is click one mouse button, instead of 3 clicks, some mouse movement and some waiting for the page to load. It might sound like I am really lazy, which I am ;D ..but it could lower the threshold just enough to get people to take the time to listen, instead of just ignoring it completely.
Anyway, let's get this thing rolling.. let's see who the real addicts are who can't refrain from playing some of these songs over and over again
thanks Roy

That's great, so everybody join the Last.FM SellaBand Group, we need at least 15 members to get some charts generated, we have 8 members so far.Elrond it seems you are a long time member/subscriber, so please share with us what you know about Last.FM and how we should be doing this.
