Is it just me or...? How can I as an artist explain to all the people I convinced to invest in me through Sellaband.com that Sellaband is bankrupt one day, and the other day explain them that "all is good" and "you can invest your money again". I just don't see how to do this... Sellaband's bankruptcy was such a big issue in yesterday's news I doubt if they'll ever come over it again.... This is indeed going to be a tough ask, but you'd have to assume that anyone buying the smoking wreckage of a failed dot com simply has to have a game plan to deal with this! First off, emphasising that the Escrow setup worked. That _even though_ oSAB (old SAB) went tits-up the monies in Escrow were safe has to be a good thing (OK, perhaps a bronze lining?) from the current debarkle. That the Believer's money is/was/willbe safe (apart from various charges, etc) is defo a good thing. Otherwise, like any company takeover, there will be doubt and worry, but assuming they can do the right thing, be seen to do the right thing, time can heal the damage ... Whomever's buying it must think there's a future ... I certain hope there is. UBG

With Bankcruptcy and contracts in NZ law bankcruptcy of a label .. frees the artist from contract forthwith ..
Not sure how it works there .. but one still has a moral obligation to those who financed the CD regardless. Here's hoping the German buyers keep it smooth. When I replied to the trustee's letter. I cced in TVNZ reporter I dealt with yesterday .. Any hesitation in handing over the assigned budget for production of my CD and I will be calling TVNZ back .. they were concerned that NZdrs were affected and not just artist .. One of Sellaband's biggest investors lives in NZ. So they have an interest in the situation and would send in a foreign correspondent if a problem arises.

I noticed a lot of you are wondering about the stock of our LECD's at the (former) SAB-HQ in Amsterdam. Last year I had a phonecall with SAB-HQ about my CD's, I wanted to have them sent to my home. That was no problem for the cd's that were stocked at their office but the newer ones would be at the manufacturers place and that could take a while before I would get them. Well, strange enough...I got those cd's but the older ones are still in Amsterdam I suppose. I was planning to pick them up soon but now I'm too late...
Point is: Misty Mayhem's release and newer albums (BPM, DWM, FRB, Angie, So What etc) were not stored at the SAB-HQ so possibly there are different consequences for getting them.

In an Amsterdam newspaper I read that SellaBand has been bought by four anonymous persons (who wish to remain anonymous) let me guess... at least two of those are the original "Angel Investors" BTW It's great to see this forum back up, I missed it

What I dislike the most by this whole process is the dirt Pim Betist is throwing

Hi,
Matt (BPM) sums up most of what I feel. No one is surprised by this, least of all us... we have had some MAJOR disappointments in terms of broken promises and lack of support.
I propose that all 50K artists who want to have our SAB contracts (artist and publishing) nul-in-void forth with due to SellaBand's recent insolvency take a group action to do so. I know we have each others emails and we can continue with this action there, but I'm doing this publicly because it's time we all took action out in the open in my opinion. Who's interested?

Before taking any action I would advice to wait what the buyers will come up with.
I think some statements by artists with regards to copyright are made because a lack of knowledge on the part of the artists and a simple call to buma/stemra can clear things up for you. Get to know the system before you make claims. Court actions will lead to nothing and I wish the people who think about it luck. It's plain stupid imho
All believer money is on escrow so no worries regarding that part on my side.

Walter, thanks for your input. I've waited two years since my album was released to see what SAB will come up with LOL!
Not sure what the rest of your post is referring to...

The new owner is Make Music GmbH & Co Holzstrasse 28 D-80469 München
The good news: this company is specialised in music marketing and has been active since 2001 and works with the major labels, German Concert Organisers and Media. "Innovation & Emotionalising of brands & media through music conception & innovation and conception of innovative Media Strategies".
In short, they offer most of that what Artists & Believers always understood to be missing in the Sellaband Concept.
Sellaband HQ has found a very good company to take over the Sellaband brand.

Please keep in mind that the company is only active in Germany. How effective they'll be internationally is an open question, but the owner must have thought about the internationality of the SAB platform and how he could leverage his assets and skills in other countries.

I see the Sellaband homepage is back up now with a message from the outgoing CEO and another one from the incoming one

According to MakeMusic.de MichaelB has worked in "International Marketing in the recording industry".
A side note about Africa Unsigned. It's not the separate entity you might think it is. I had a look round in mid-January and added $10 to the system via Paypal. The receipt says "Payment to SellaBand AG", the email address "paypalsab@sellaband.com". I don't know what the relationship is, but there was one in January.

Jayne, Michael B might have worked in international music marketing, but the MakeMusic clients are all German. Some of the TV Channels are international (e.g. Discovery Channel), but they have German Versions. Make Music is not operating internationally. It could be that he's using Sellaband to make a move internationally.
I too slightly wondered when I deposited money in Africa Unsigned and noticed that the merchant account of Sellaband had been used. As far as I understand the SAB and Africa Unsigned share the platform (backend) but with a different front (look).
