I think it's a good idea to invest in oneself, because Sellaband is GIVING the CD to Believers based on parts. The ARTIST has to purchase their CD from Sellaband at $5 a piece... so if the ARTIST places money in themselves, they will recieve these CD's for free, which is the least the ARTIST deserves after raising 50K, and making an album.

Hi everybody.
I'm in Awake and we have been up here for about two weeks now. I just read all the arguments pro and con for investing in yourself. As you can see on our profile by now all band members have bought a couple of shares.
When I signed us up I had my doubts thinking this was going to be like myspace: millions of acts just being there and nothing happening. I heard that there are tools now to automatically comment on profiles asking people to listen to their music. I found out SellaBand is different.
I have read several good reasons for investing in yourself and also some good objections. We do it because we would normally invest our money in recording music and pressing Cd's. On myspace nobody can see how dedicated you are. On sellaband they can. Everybody can see Vegas Dragons is for real because they invested 1300 dollars in themselves.
I read Cubworld's piece in the Tribune today and he summed it up nicely. He was going to use sellaband as his own savings account and make a CD later with his own money. Then along came people who liked him and his music and they helped him. That's what I hope for us to happen too. We will continue to invest in ourselves, be it on sellaband or buying equipment or booking a studio. The more people want to help us the better it is but Awake will go on.
We've been making music for ten years now but in Holland nobody in the industry will give you the time of day if your not in style. The fashion you have to create first. The best example is Within Temptation. They told their small but dedicated following that they had to request their latest video on a music station. The fans did this so many times that it became a huge hit. The album went platinum over two years after it was released because of that one video and these days female fronted metal is huge in Holland. I think a band should do that on sellaband too. Let people see your dedication. I think people would know very soon if bands started retracting their own money. They're not stupid and it is a lot of money too. A band has to show his fans that their investment is safe with them. What better way to do this than to show you have something riding on this adventure?
Keep believing.
