In order to understand oneself, understand the other. They dont mean it personally. Kirt, you really are the King of Cool. I would like to meet you one day. A fair bit of the discussion has been "top 10" related on page 2 of this thread. As an artist who joined Sellaband and begun like everyone else with $0, my goal was always to get Vegas Dragons to the top 10. I feel very blessed that we are there now. I don't know how long Vegas Dragons will last in that top 10 but let me tell you, this should be every artist's goal - to aspire to be in the top 10. I knew it would be good to get there but being in there is MUCH better than I thought it would be. The profile views on Vegas Dragons page have skyrocketed and so have the tracks played. In my diary at the start of the year I wrote the facts on Vegas Dragons as they stood at Jan 1. Profiles : 7300 tracks played: 4459 As of Jan 17 the Vegas Dragons page reads: Profiles: 13,166 tracks played: 7061 Our budget has also doubled and Vegas is definitely benefiting from the new wave of Believers, particularly from The Netherlands. I am writing this NOT to big note my band, I assure you! I am just trying to show everyone the power of being in that magical top 10. Now Vegas Dragons may be out of there tomorrow but it will always be my goal to get back in there again as soon as possible. There is amazing benefits to being ranked on page one.

I think it sucks to have money taken out of you (especially if say, you'd sent a signed cd to a believer ), but tbh, it's one of the pluses to have that option on SAB... it makes investement a much less scary option for new people to the site. 99% of people would't take money out unless they had a very good reason I think. Luckily, so far, our team has stayed intact, but I`m sure one day some money will be taken out. Of course, I`ll have to hunt them down and spank them..... One believer mentioned in a Tribune that he regularly puts in 10 parts, then takes out 9, just so that the artist get's on the 'biggest gainers' list. I can see the logic, but it's still very disheartening for the artist.

It only helps when there is a new wave of Believers! So I think the primary goal of all bands should be to attract new waves of Believers to SellaBand, instead of trying to compete to get into the top 10. Because without new Believers you'll be in the top 10 forever, because you never reach $50k. So I don't think top 10 should be your goal. The amazing benefit will come from the huge number of potential Believers that still haven't checked out SellaBand yet, your goal should be to find them and inform them of SellaBand.

Just another note from belivers side. Yes I withdrew parts from an artist by now twice (1x1 and 1x4) without leaving a message. Why? Thats easy to tell. I belived some parts, wrote messages, wrote reviews and ? Nothing! No word back, no new songs, no profile or message posted within the last 2 month. Ok I know thats not exactly what Mysti means, but I had no other story to offer ;-) I would never withdraw parts without a conversation with the artist, except when I see that they are not an active member of the SAB community for a long time. As these two artist (who are not favored with many belivers) didnt even wrote a message after my withdrawal I think I will withdraw all of my parts as they obviously dont care.
Side question to the artists: Do you get notice when a beliver bought an additional part or withdraws one or do you have to have the correct numbers in your mind?

You can tell that someone has increased their amount of parts just after it happened with a message saying:thank you....for believing in... etc. If another believer invests, he replaces the former believer and thus it is often very hard to say who has increased their parts. Especially decreased parts: you just have no idea. It would be good to have an improved system for artists to exactly see who has taken parts out and who as added parts. This way misunderstandings dont occur. The artist you have spoken about couldnt have known WHO has removed their parts. Especially if there are quite alot of believers.

When I started on Sellaband they didn't even have the light blue Believer name on the artist's page to show you who was the last one to invest into you. It would be awesome if Sellaband would give artists a Believer statement - like a bank account - that shows the deposit of parts they have received and any (dreaded) withdrawals. That is why I keep an account of the Believers in my "Shows" section and try to update it straight away as it changes. Not only does it give me the numerical order of when a Believer joined - so I can give them that number CD of 5000, it is great because it allows me to know what is happening at all times.
As for thanking the Believers. I always thank my Believers and if I do not thank them - I would expect them to remove their parts in Vegas Dragons. Of all the artists I believed in, little more than half bothered to thank me! That is not right! Just "thanks very much" - just 3 words would make all the difference. I am still dumbfounded by the amount of artists that do not take the time to thank EVERY single Believer that has invested in their dream. Why not? What possible excuse could there be? Too busy? PLEASE!!! We are all busy! Believers are busy earning money to support artists too! I would rather go without sleep than go without thanking the people who are willing to make my life/career better and brighter.
To any artists that do not thank their Believers, I say "Shame! Shame! Shame!"

But that's exactly it. I take the time to thank every single person that Believes... that is time out of my day. Why? Because I am THANKFUL! And honored. I watch my SAB like a hawk, so within an hour of recieving a new Believer, they are guarunteed to have me on their site, on my knees thanking them for their Belief. Which is why it bothers me so much that someone did this in the first place, because I know they had a comment on their site from me thanking them.... so it makes me wonder why I even bothered wasting my time in them if they were just going to remove their part. It hurts my feelings, DAMNIT.

The only times I havent thanked a believer was when I had no idea who increased their parts. It would be good to have a log of the daily beliefs and of withdrawals. That would be simple and solve that problem. I´ll write Pim about it.

I totally agree with being thankful to believers. As some of us are also believers ourselves, we know it's not the easiest thing in the world to hand over cash. The least an artist could do is say thanks. I still never got any sort of thanks or anything from one of the artists I believed in, and wrote a cool review for (an Aussie band no less). I`m busy alot too.... two babies, a house/garden and music, so yeah there's not much excuse, unless there were so many believers that day you couldn't tell who did what/when. Anyway, I still won't take out my investment in that band, as I don't think it should be done (generally). If they had stayed inactive for 6 months... maybe then. I totally empathise with Mysti. It does hurt. Not all believers may realise it, but music is our life. It makes us ultra happy that people enjoy our music enough to invest, and also hurts like hell if they don't like our music enough to invest, and even worse... take money out. Still... part of life I suppose. Well Brian, I`m not quite 6 foot (about an inch shy I think), and I`m not a Black Belt (didnt do Kickboxing for the belts), but I`ll still kick your arse I know you'll enjoy it Point taken though, my new fear tactic will be to spank the offender(s) with a rose-branch Hmmm, EoO will probably enjoy that more..... will have to think of something truly terrifying for him......
