Erm, least played in rock would help us out. SeriOusly though, a way to create a dynamic playlist via genre (sorted high to low on posting activity maybe?) or low to high would interest me. I like to listen to the bands with only a few believers as well. In essence I think that a picture of me naked (except for a top hat) might be the way forward. I will of course open a poll on the hat colour, as I'm not some sort of Headwear Facist. Dreb of Sheet Metal www.sellaband.com/sheetmetal

First of all I think that all 5 artists should play in London, especially because Rodino is already in London, so that won't cost much money... Second: why not create Sellaband the collission cd, with only songs where artists with different styles make songs together! Like Lily and AliouneK...!

One thing I (and a believer of mine) think might be worth considering is a 'light' version of the Sellaband formula.
By that I mean a having a reduced target for those artists who (like me) wouldn't necessarily need all the 50k to get a CD made.
If you are a band like Vegas Dragons or Bulletproof Messenger then you will probably need (and want) to spend a decent amount of money on the initial recording side of the CD because with bands like those you really get to hear where the money went.
Is 50k the 'Internationally Agreed Price of an Album'?. I'm sure I am not the only artist on SAB that wouldn't need the 'once in a lifetime' studio time. I might need to get a good vocal room (and vocalist), a producer to offer feedback on the mixing and then some time at a mastering studio at the end but that wouldn't involve such a high budget. The real benefit of reaching any target would be the publicity and the momentum that would be generated from it.
Home studios are everywhere. Not everyone is out there forming rock bands and trying to record themselves on the equipment they have available - often with mixed results. Nowadays more people are producing music on their own and on their own terms that sounds 90% finished in terms of production.
Also, if you are in a musical genre that isn't exactly mainstream then bringing the target down a bit might make you a more appealing investment to believers who feel that you may never get to 50k but you might hit a smaller target. If you are a little outside the mainstream but making music that has an audience you might be networking away on SAB for ages before you hit the promised land.
Having 50k as the only target doesn't encourage diversity. Think of all your favourite movies that would never have been made if the makers could only ask "It's 100 million or nothing".
(Rant off)
Comments and complaints would be appreciated.

I think it's currently important for SAB to have a simple and clear message - Reach $50K and get into the studio. Once SAB have been around a while, there may be opportunities to alter the rules a bit, but for now they need consistency and simplicity.
Potentially offering a higher target could be a useful option too. $100K for example, might attract existing Artists with a large fan base who would like the opportunity to join the fray, but for whome $50K just wouldn't be enough.
I also think there could be room for maybe even a couple of lower targets. Let's say $5000 target to get the Artist into a studio to produce some better songs to make it easier to reach the $50K next time around? This might preclude actually shipping LE CDs to all Believers, as the cost of making 500 CDs might each most of the budget - maybe a higher price per Part to offset this? $25K/$30K for a smaller run - a half-way house, though really, if you reach $25K/$30K you're well on your way to getting the $50K!
All that said, I return to my opening gambit - SAB need to keep it simple for the first year or so, at least, to encourage people to come on board without having to fathom a huge and complicated set of rules!

Yes, you make a good point about why things should be kept simple. Different versions of the SAB formula may work in the future but keeping the premise nice and simple to begin with is probably the best way to go for the time being (at least until the beleiver base really takes off). It's easier for visitors to the site to understand a simple formula so they will most likely sign up as an artist or believer.
I also hadn't even considered the idea that bands with an established fan base may want to aim higher than 50k.
